LEARN + KOREAN / Note 47 TOPIK I
Every Time (-마다)
a
마다 attaches to a time word to mean “every”: 아침마다, “every morning.” No conjugation rule to check, it attaches to the noun exactly as written.
In Real Life
에 한 번 counts occurrences: 일주일에 두 번 (“twice a week”) could land on any two days. 마다 means every single instance, no exceptions. 목요일마다 means every Thursday without fail, not an average of roughly once a week.
woryoilhago suyoilmada sueobeul deureoyo.
I attend classes every Monday and Wednesday.
In Real Life
방학 specifically means a school or university break, a student’s vacation. 휴가 (from -려고 해요) is vacation from work. Mixing them up marks you as talking about the wrong kind of time off entirely.
